We have an immediate opening for a qualified Armed Security Guard supporting the Maryland Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services.

The duties of the Armed Security Guard include:

• Provide courteous timely service continuously while maintaining control of all personnel and vehicles entering the installation.
• Control all personnel and vehicles departing the installation.
• Conduct inspections of vehicles at the designated vehicle inspection point.
• Perform individual identification checks.
• Issue visitor passes at the main entry gate/entrance foyer.
• Direct traffic at access control points.
• Perform emergency procedures for gate closure.

Qualifications:

• Must be at least 21 years of age or older
• Must be US Citizen or legal resident
• Must be able to pass Criminal History Background Check and drug screening
• Must possess current and valid driver's license
• Must have reliable means of transportation
• Must have the ability to meet and deal positively and courteously with the general public.
• Must have verifiable employment references with extensive knowledge of security protocol and procedures.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to provide training on security policies and procedures.

Education and Experience:

• High school diploma or equivalent required; Bachelor’s degree preferred.
• Five years of related security experience required.
• Must have current Security Guard license for MD.
• Must have HQL handgun permit.

Physical Requirements:

• Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
• Must be able to lift 25 pounds at a time.
• Ability to walk/stand / and climb stairs for extended periods.
• Must be capable of self-defense.
• Ability to traverse various areas of the facility to conduct inspections and plan security procedures.
• Must pass pre-employment drug screening and background check.
• Be trained in the use of Baton and Pepper Spray.
